● The format problem
What is hard about pitching a fund in fifteen slides.
Fund decks are the hardest single document to pitch in PDF. The investment is the thesis. The proof is the pipeline. The discipline is the strategy. None of that compresses cleanly into 18 landscape slides. Most fund decks end up with a busy strategy slide nobody reads carefully, a pipeline table that buries the work that went into it, and a fee section that gets skimmed last and remembered first.
▲ The approach
How we built the Khamsin Capital deck.
We treated the Khamsin deck as a scrollable investment memo. Each section is a single screen long, sized to a phone, and the order moves an LP from thesis to pipeline to economics in the same path the team would walk an LP through in person. The thesis section gets the most room. Everything else is supporting evidence.
The pipeline is shown as a list of named opportunities with their stage, sector and cheque size, so an LP can scan it in fifteen seconds and find the project they want to ask about. The LP economics are isolated to one section with the fee structure, vehicle terms and target net returns laid out plainly. No fine print at the bottom of an appendix.
✦ Design decisions
4 decisions that shaped this deck.
Thesis as a long-form section
The investment philosophy reads as five short paragraphs in a row, not five bullet points on one slide. LPs who skim get the headline. LPs who care read the argument.
Pipeline table without the polish
Real project names, real stages, real cheque sizes. The pipeline page is the least designed page in the deck, on purpose. It looks like a working document because that's what credibility looks like in fund land.
LP economics on one screen
Management fee, carry, hurdle, vehicle term, target net IRR. One section. No appendix detour.
Sector deep-dives as collapsible blocks
An LP who wants more on solar, water or carbon credits opens the block and gets a page. An LP who doesn't keeps scrolling. The format gives them the choice the PDF can't.
⚙ When you open the deck
Three things to look for.
01
The pacing of the thesis section. Six paragraphs, one screen each, no hero images breaking the reading.
02
The pipeline page. Project list with stage and cheque size. Compare it to a typical fund deck pipeline slide.
03
The LP economics section. Fee, carry, hurdle, term. One page, no footnotes.
A note
Khamsin Capital is a sample deck Top Tier built to show what the Smart Deck format does for a thesis-led fund. The strategy, pipeline and team are illustrative. Real fund engagements stay confidential.
