● The format problem
What is hard about pitching a consumer brand in fifteen slides.
Consumer brand decks have a specific failure mode. The cover slide is gorgeous. The product slide is gorgeous. Every other slide is grey body text. Investors come away remembering the wordmark and forgetting the business. The category, the supply chain, the channel strategy, the unit economics, the team, all of it lives in design language that has nothing to do with the brand the founder is asking them to back.
▲ The approach
How we built the Tola deck.
We built Tola so the brand identity carries through every section. Same colour palette, same type system, same visual rhythm from the cover through to the financial summary. An investor reading the channel strategy on a phone is still inside the brand. The page doesn't have to remind them which company they're looking at.
The supply chain narrative is the unusual section. Tola sources botanicals from cooperatives in three African countries and reformulates them for the US clinical skincare market. That story is the moat. We gave it its own scrollable section with a journey treatment: source, lab, finished product, retail shelf. It reads as a single argument, not as four bullets on a slide marked Operations.
✦ Design decisions
4 decisions that shaped this deck.
Brand carried through every section
Colour, type, spacing system kept consistent end to end. The financials page is in brand. The team page is in brand. There is no design drop-off after slide three.
Supply chain as a journey
Source country, processing partner, formulation lab, finished product, retail channel. Five steps, one scrollable section. Every step has a real name and a real location.
Channel strategy as a visual grid
Direct-to-consumer, Sephora, dermatologist offices, international. Each channel gets a card with the unit economics for that channel. Easier to scan than a four-column table.
Product range with real SKUs
Six products, three categories, two price tiers. Photographed in the brand palette. The financial model in the appendix maps cleanly to these SKUs so an investor can trace a revenue line back to a product.
⚙ When you open the deck
Three things to look for.
01
The transition from cover to problem to brand statement. Notice that the design language doesn't change.
02
The supply chain section. Compare it to how a typical consumer brand deck shows operations.
03
The channel strategy grid. Four channels, four cards, four sets of unit economics.
A note
Tola is a sample deck Top Tier built to show what the Smart Deck format does for a vertically integrated consumer brand. The supply chain partners and product range are illustrative. Real consumer brand engagements stay confidential.
